Craft Barn weekly challenge & Time Out

I'd like to enter this journal page in 2 challenges:
The Craft Barn weekly challenge: "Words"
Time Out Challenge: see photo below

I've made this page a few weeks back and think this could fit both challenges. The quote is from a song by a band called Canterbury (unfortunately they split up last year). The song is called "Garden Grows" (if you like check it out here).
For this page I've used nearly every flower stamp that I have and also most of my VersaFine and VersaColor ink pads.
I randomly stamped the flowers onto the page in different colours to create a background and than added the lyrics with matching colour stickers.

Thanks for looking :)

The new challenge over at Less is More (Week 219) is "Splatters".
Great theme. I used a white square card base and added 3 different Distress Inks through  my "Splatter" stencil. Spritzed it with a bit of water and stamped the sentiment with black VersaFine. Nice and Easy :)

I would also like to enter this into the "Rainbow" challenge at Time Out

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Let's Get Vintage

This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Let's Get Vintage".

For this card I've printed out the vintage image twice, layered one on red cardstock and cut out the sentiment on the second image and adhered it to the first image to get a little bit of 3D effect. I added red patterned paper and ribbon to a gold square cardbase and added the focal image.
My Christmas cards collection for this year is slowly growing, which is great. I really enjoy it :)

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Angels/Cherubs

This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Angels/Cherubs".

For this card I've cut out 2 rectangular panels and embossed them with a Polka Dot folder. Then I glued both panels on a red card base. I stamped the angel with black VersaFine and used clear embossing powder. After that I used a red glitter pen to highlight some areas and added red adhesive stones.  I did the same with the sentiment piece. Finally I layered them with some red cardstock and glued the toppers on the card base.

Less Is More - Predominantly Black

The new challenge over at Less is More (Week 218) is "Predominantly Black".
I cut out 3 different size circles in Black and White and layered them on top of each other. I stamped the quote on the top white one. Then I adhered white and red ribbon to a piece of black card and glued it to a white cardbase. Finally I added the circles and a glittery red heart.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

New Craft Barn prompts for April. They are BLUE and UMBRELLAS.
I've started with the background and added different blue Distress Inks on it. Then I used a brush and spritzed water all over it to create raindrop stains. After that I added the stitch border.

For the tag I used Distress Inks again, added the border and stamped the circles. The main image is from Tim Holtz stamped with VersaFine and embossed with clear embossing powder. I used the same DIs as for the tag and added the red ribbon. Then adhered everything to the background. Sorry for the slightly wonky scan, it's a bit too early in the morning :)

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Lime, Turquoise & White

For this card I've cut out a 6 squares in 2 different sizes with my Cuttlebug. I've added Distress Inks to each square and added white glitter snowflakes to each square. After that I scored 3 lines on a white card-base and added the same Distress Inks. I arranged and glued the squares on the card and stamped the sentiment with Distress Ink and coloured it with a Gelly Roll pen.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The new theme for the weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Retiform. Check this technique out here.
I've done this technique before, but didn't know it was called Retiform.

I masked off different sections on a square piece of cardstock and coloured them with blue and red Distress Inks. Then masked off every section again and stamped the Asian woman and the cherry blossoms in the different sections. I've added the ribbon and the charm and layered the piece on some black card and onto a gold card base.
A fun technique.

Here's a new card for the new Less is More Challenge - Week 217.

I had to make a birthday card for my Brother-in-Law so I went for the following challenges:

I coloured a Tim Holtz car embossing folder with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink and embossed a piece of white cardstock with my Cuttlebug. I added then Antique Linen and Old Paper DIs to the embossed car and die cutted the whole piece. After that I've used some Walnut Stain DI for the edges of that piece.

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Gifts
This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Gifts".

For some reason it took ages to come up with an idea what to do. I just couldn't find the right image. But today I had a look at http://freetrinketstreasures.blogspot.co.uk/ and finally discovered the one I wanted to use. I took a piece of music sheet crumbled it up and added Faded Jeans Distress Ink. Then adhered it to some blue textured cardstock and added the blue ribbon. I layered the image on the same blue cardstock and fixed it on the card with foam pads. I then coloured the wooden sentiment with Metallic Marker and added it to the image, replacing the word Joy in the quote on the image with the wooden word Joy. Finally glued the whole piece to white cardstock.

Less Is More: One Layer - Include an Animal

This card is for the new Less is More Challenge - Week 215.
The Challenge this week is a One Layer card with the theme: Include an Animal.
I always kind of struggle with One Layer cards, that's why I love to play at LIM from time to time. Gets me out of my comfort zone.

For this card I used Vintage Photo and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks through a Harlequin stencil on a white card base. Then I used the quote stamp from Craft Stamper magazine with Black Onyx VersaFine and the butterfly stamp from Crafty Individuals with Rangers Big and Juicy Ink. I actually quite like the effect that the Harlequin pattern is showing through the butterflies.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

The Craft Barn prompts for March are YELLOW and RABBITS.
I've used Mustard Seed and Wild Honey Distress Inks for the background and then used my favourite new toy the Burst template from Crafters Workshop with Wild Honey Distress Ink. I then stamped the Alice in Wonderland faux postage stamps from Stampattack on white card stock with Deep Lagoon VersaFine and coloured them with Mustard Seed and Fired Brick Distress Inks. I found jute sheets at one of our Poundshops and adhered the faux postage to it and also added some jute border at the top and the bottom.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The theme for the 2nd weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Tando.
I only own a stencil from Tando, which made it easy to decide what to use. I've recently learnt about a technique which is called Bokeh and thought this would go well with my splatter stencil. Well, I liked the end result, but I'm not sure if it's really Bokeh :)

Here is what I did:
I've used 3 different Distress Inks for the background, let it dry completely and then sponged white Brilliance Ink through the stencil. I've overlapped the splatters from time to time and again let it dry.
Then I've stamped the Happiness quote from PaperArtsy on a piece of cardboard, which I die-cut with my Cuttlebug, coloured it with Distress Ink and layered it on a blue piece of cardboard. I've layered the whole card on another piece of blue cardboard, added the ribbon and the charm and adhered everything onto a white card.

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Stars

This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Stars".

For this card I've masked of a strip on a white square panel with Post-Its and coloured it with Distress Inks.
I found a stars stamp from Craft Stamper magazine, which I've stamped along the top of the coloured area. I've used a clear gelly roll pen for the stars, drew a small gold border and added the ribbon and the small "Wish" charm. Then used red paper as a layer and adhered everything on a gold square card.

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Santa

I've found this Blog: Merry Monday Christmas where they are having Christmas Card Challenges throughout the year and I think it's a great way to get all your cards done without the usual stress before the holidays. Also it's a chance to use all the Christmas stuff, which I have been hoarding for years by buying new stuff every year and just using it once :)

So the challenge this week is : Santa

To get some inspiration I went on You Tube and found this lovely tutorial for a plaid background card by Gina K.
I really like the overall look and technique, so I decided to use it for this card.
For the plaid background I've used white card stock, a red Stabilo pen and a green and gold gel pen. I've found the image on Valerie Brincheck's craft blog. Check out her blog she kindly provided hundreds of free images to use. It's a real treasure trove if it comes to vintage images. The greeting is from a Viva Decor stamp set.

Journal 52 - Week 3

I finally finished the page for Week3 at Journal 52. The prompt this week is Conversation Starters.
The page is inspired by a short episode at work. A colleague had a rather erratic outbreak telling us that we should adhere to the house rules since she has to do it as well. It was a bit awkward to be honest. However another colleague send me a text asking "Who made her the Queen?" So I decided to use this quote for the page.
I've added different acrylic paints to the background and stamped some Viva Decor elements around the page. I used some German Scrap for the borders, glued on the queen image and added the quote.

Will work on the next prompts soon.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

This year the
Craft Barn team is hosting weekly challenges as well and the first one is to create a Mini Album.
I decided to make a Travel Album and it will be a birthday present for a friend of mine. For the covers I've used corrugated cardboard glued to strong cardboard. I've decorated the covers front and back with travel images using Papermania stamps (coloured with Distress Inks) and postage stamps.

I've used Spellbinders papers for the insides of the covers and added some Crafty Individuals images and Washi Tape. The pages for the album are plastic pocket wallets and different note papers from Papermania. This was good fun.

I used Distress Inks for the background and stamped the script and hearts on it with VersaMark. After that I stamped the quote on another cardboard and cut it out. Then I glued the image of the smiling woman and the quote on the background and added another cut out heart.  Finally I used a Gelly Roll Pens for some highlights.

Journal 52 - Week 4

I'm still working on the conversation (week 3) page, however I have finished the page for Week 4 at Journal 52. The prompt this week is to incorporate a silhouette.

For the background I've used several Distress Inks sprayed with water. For the sihouette I've used black VersaFine and scribbled some text on it, outlined with white Posca Pen. Then I added some pen stamps at one side of the page.

The words are from a stencil as well. Added some Washi Tape and draw a white border around the page.
Looking forward to next weeks prompt.
Thanks for looking.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

The new Craft Barn challenge for this year is creating a calendar.
The prompts for January are AQUA and SNOWFLAKES.
I found a perpetual DIY calendar which I bought a couple of years ago and decided to use it as a base.
For the background I found an old snowflake stamp, which I stamped with VersaMark all over the card stock. I embossed it with white embossing powder and applied blue Distress Inks.
I then added the main polar bear image and the icicle onto the background. Finally I used Gelly Roll Pens.
Looking forward to this years challenge and to complete the calendar.
Thanks for looking :)

Journal 52 - Week 2

The prompt for Week 2 at Journal 52 is: "just be": think about the word being and what it means to you. This might mean being your self and what makes you who you are, the things you do, or being present in the moment – it might mean just getting lost in the art of creating this week – that’s perfectly OK too!"

I think it's important to be happy with your life, yourself, what you do and so on. Even if it's not so easy sometimes. So I went for: Just be happy.

For the background I've used 3 different Distress Stains and stamped some wood grain on it. Then I cut out some letters to spell "Just be happy" and glued it on the page. To finish it off I added some Washi tape to one side.
Looking forward to next weeks prompt.
Thanks for looking.

Journal 52 - Week 1

My crafty new years resolution is to finish the Journal 52 challenge this year. Didn't quite make it last year.

So the prompt for Week 1 is "Pathways": think about things that will inspire you along the path, and things you hope to see in the upcoming year. Maybe you are taking your first steps towards a project, or maybe you are looking ahead with goals and New Year’s Resolutions. What will help you along your journey?

So the Journal 52 challenges are my pathway for this year. I've covered the background with pan pastels and added Grunge Paste through a stencil. Coloured the paste with Distress Ink and stamped the quote on cardboard, coloured it and glued it to the background. Die-cut some letters and glued: "a new path" in the lower corner.
Thanks a lot for looking.
